April, a time for baby showers

Last week I went to two baby showers for some friends from grade school. They were both in town and both on Tuesday, one after the other. They were great fun. It was good to see some friends I don't get to see very often.

Life is fragile

As I was returning home from work yesterday afternoon, I was talking with Skyler on the phone about our plans for the rest of the day, when I saw ahead of me a little ways, a horrible rollover accident. Once I realized what I had just seen, I interrupted Skyler and said " Oh my gosh, oh my gosh, oh my gosh!" Maybe even several more times. My heart started pounding pretty fast. I was pretty terrified for whoever was in the car. It was actually a truck with some kind of trailer attached to it. I'm pretty sure the truck started in one of the far left lanes and it ended up on it's side hitting the railing on the right. I saw it roll atleast 4 times but it may have rolled more before I noticed it. Immediately cars started slowing down and I saw people rushing over to help. As I passed by I saw someone helping hold a cloth to some young womens head. She had blood coming down everywhere. Then there were guys trying to get other people out of the truck that were still stuck. I hung up with Skyler and called 911. Of course I was on hold of sorts. "If this is an emergency, please do not hang up. Stay on the line." This is quite discomforting. After about a minute or so I just hung up becuase I noticed several people out of their cars on their phones most likely calling the police as well. I wasn't home for the rest of the night so I was unable to see if everyone was ok or not. I couldn't find it online either.
This is not the first time I've seen a rollover. I think I was still in high school, or maybe freshly graduated. I was taking a weekend roadtrip with a friend to visit her boyfriends family. She was actually speeding pretty bad going like 90mph or so in the carpool lane when all of the sudden some cars collided ahead of us and a truck rolled and ramed into the shoulder just ahead of us. We were sooo close to hitting him going 90mph! She quickly slowed down and pulled over. I'm pretty sure I was the one freaking out while she kept calm. That was even worse of an accident.
I'm grateful I was only a witness in both of these. It really makes me grateful for life and makes me realize how fragile life is. I think we all need to be reminded to not take life for granted and live everyday to the fullest.

C'era was in town for business... dating business that is, so she stayed with us again this past weekend. It's so nice having her around. Makes our lives a little bit more interesting. Saturday morning, Skyler and I went to Pictureline to get the camera sensor cleaned. It needed a cleaning very badly. We were just looking around while it was being cleaned when some kind of presentation with a slideshow started. It turns out that it was work by Bry Cox. He is an amazing photographer. He does all kinds of work in Utah. I didn't know of him before this. He did a little presentation then we all went outside and observed him do a photoshoot with a professional model from the area. She is in the first set of pictures in the model section on his website. It was pretty cool. He also has some amazing slideshows on his site as well. Make sure you turn up your speakers.
When we got home we walked over to Memory Grove where C'era and Tony, one of her friends were slacklining. We watched them for a minute but I of course had to try it. It was pretty hard! C'era said I did pretty darn good for my frist time! It was pretty fun.

Take a look at this video. Found this on Youtube. Some people take it to the extreme. Pretty crazy!
We also finally sold our workout machine. It just had to go. Neither of us really wanted to get rid of it, but we just don't have the space for it, we never have. That's why it was never really used. It seriously took up almost half of our bedroom. I practically had to climb over it to get into bed every night. Finally I just had enough so I put it on Craigslist and KSL. We got lots of responses. We sold it on Saturday. We practically gave it away. We sold it for $200. We included the weights. I think there was about 150 lbs. of weights. That alone should be worth about $150! $1/pound. I didn't realize that until after I had already posted a price though. Oops! The guy who bought it got it for a steal! That's ok though. I'm just glad to be rid of it and have more space finally!

First session in training

Tonight I met up with Courtney, the photographer I will be working for, and the couple she was to be taking engagements of. Tonight will be the first of perhaps many sessions where I will "shadow" her of sorts. I was kinda nervous, I hadn't yet worked with anyone but a family member or friend, or someone I already knew. So this was different. But I was pretty excited as well.
We all met up at the International Peace Gardens in Salt Lake City. I didn't even know this place existed until then. This place is great! This is a wonderful place for bridals and engagements. I would probably say it's more ideal for bridals, but it seems that it would work great for both.
This couple was lots of fun. The girl was just gorgeous! The camera just loved her!
Courtney, had me shoot candid shots in addition. It was lots of fun. I was able to learn some stuff while shooting. Sadly, these are not mine to share, even though I took them. It'll be property of the company now:( I loved the shots so much. I wish I could share them. It's killin' me that I can't!

More Ingrid

I like free stuff. So when Skyler told me that he had heard on the radio that Ingrid Michaelson was back in town and was going to be playing a free little promotional concert at Best Buy on Satuday, I was all for it. This is one good thing about musical artists when they are still up and coming. They can do this kind of thing. It was pretty cool. I enjoyed it. Sadly I didn't bring my camera so I didn't get a picture with her but I did get her to sign my cd. She was very nice and quite funny.

The audacity!

Ok, so I am just a bit upset. I just found out that our upstairs neighbors decided to take the liberty and switch off our power completely. Here is why she thinks that she had the right.
Around 1pm I was listening to music, the Beatles to be exact. I was not playing it loud whatsoever. I never play it too loud. I try to be very considerate of our neighbors. She must have thought otherwise. However, I will say that when they play their music, they play it loud enough that I feel like I'm in da club and can sing along if I wanted to. Do I complain? No.
I was also hammering 2 nails into the wall earlier this afternoon because I have been rearranging some pictures of my photography on the wall. She called the landlord and complained that I woke up her kid from a nap. I feel bad that I happened to be hammering when he was asleep, but how was I supposed to know what time he sleeps!? I will add, I cannot count how many times I have been woken up from a nap of my own by their loud loud little boy. Have I ever complained? Nope. Anyways, she called and complained about these two things, then decided to turn off our power in addition. I sat in our house without power, in the dark for 3 hours! Then Skyler gets home and calls the landlord asking if he knows why it would be out when he could see that the upstairs power was on. He says that she had complained and to check the breaker out back. Sure enough! I can't wait until we have a home and don't have to worry about this anymore! ...Luckily I hear they are moving next month. Thank you!
