Westin's 1st Birthday

October has become my favorite month. The crisp cool night air, the leaves changing, fall harvest, delicious fall treats, and October is when our sweet little boy was born. We went to The Black Island Farm on Westin's birthday, a great way to jump start October.

Birthday Boy! Big 1 year old!

teeter-totter. It's been a very long time since I've been on one of these!
Takin' a little ride
He wasn't so sure about sitting in a bunch of Corn kernels. I don't know that I'd be either.
The hayride was lots of fun, but it was in the dark. We got to pick out our own pumpkins to take home.

Concluding September

We took Westin to the playground for the first time and he loved it! Well, at first he wasn't so sure about going down the slide with mom or dad, but he warmed up to the idea pretty quickly.

He thought the swings were the best part!
But I think the smile says it all!

Oh, and we have an announcement to make...
(drumroll please....)
Westin is no longer afraid of the sand.
He has made peace with it.
Now we just need to really put it to the test on a real beach, perhaps Hawaii?
On another note, I love that Westin will actually sit through (most) of a show and be entertained so I can get something done! (But I do try to hold back on the amount of TV time he gets.) He really loves The Fox and the Hound 2. So do I.
We'll end September with a picture I just love.
Daddy reading with Westin is always a picture moment.

We helped my grandparents celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary last month. Now even though this was more than one month ago, I still wanted to share this. I love this picture I got from the party. I have already printed this off and given them a copy. They thanked me and noted how old they are looking. But all I notice when I look at it is how in love they both look.

Happy Anniversary Grandma and Grandpa.

State Fair 2010

I'd never been to the State Fair. It's true.
We went this year. I loved it!

Food.
Colorful booths.
Lots of rides.
Art.
Entertainment.
Fried food.
Games.
Oh, and did I mention food?

A friend of ours from our previous ward had some incredible artwork on display at the fair.
He won 1st place in his category!

Westin trying on a hat from one of the vendors. I thought it was sooo cute, but couldn't bring myself to pay the price.
Me and some scary guys from Frightmares
Fried Twinkie
Um, ...yes I ate it.
And yes it was good.
I was pointing at the choo-choo train going by
Skyler won a stuffed fishy for Westin!
I thought the fair was great!
We'll be back next year!

Southern Utah part 2

We started off the day at no place other than the Bear Paw for breakfast, of course. My favorite breakfast place in St. George. Go there if you haven't been!

Then we were off to Zions to spend the day. Once we go there, we came to find out that we came on the second busiest time of the year, labor day weekend. Should have known! But that's when we were there so that's when we would go. It turned out to not be a big deal at all. We were fortunate enough to find a parking spot at the visitors center (which was packed full) and then we just shuttled up the canyon.

Isn't this place just breath taking?!

While we were at the visitors center, we asked which hikes were the most baby friendly. And though they told us about a few, we ended up going on the wrong trail. We accidentally took the "upper" and not the "lower" trail. (I will point out that it was Skyler's fault, I was just following:)

It turned out to be a very difficult hike, especially for me, and I wasn't the one carrying Westin on my back.

But eventually we made it to the waterfall. It was kind of cool standing behind the waterfall.

Resting by the big tree

We rewarded ourselves with an ice cream from this place.

If I remember correctly, I had blackberry cream cheese in a waffle cone. Uhm, yes it was delicious. Not pictured- because I ate it.
